SUMEDHA CENTRE FOR PSYCHOSPIRITUAL WELLBEING
DON BOSCO SPECIALIZED TRAINING CENTER OKHLA, N.D.

(2003-2008)

Sumedha Centre for Psychospiritual Wellbeing, a venture of the Salesians of Don Bosco, of the New Delhi Province of the Good Shepherd was set up in 2003 at the Don Bosco Specialized Training Centre, New Delhi, in order to offer residential programmes related to personal and organizational renewal and updating– healing, growth and transformation, especially for those involved in helping others, such as priests, religious, teachers, healthcare professionals and social workers.

Sumedha Centre’s programmes focus on the renewal of body, mind and spirit through insights and practices from psychology, social sciences and spiritual traditions.

In Sanskrit, Sumedha refers to a healthy brain that controls entire body-mind systems, as well as to rejuvenation of body and mind. The name indicates the vision and mission of the Centre: Healng and Wellbeing of Individuals and organizations.

MOVE TO JEOLIKOTE, UTTARAKHAND

In August 2008, Sumedha Centre ceased operations in New Delhi, and preparations were made to shift the Centre and its services to Jeolikote, Nainital District of Uttarakhand, where the Pastoral Centre belonging to the Diocese of Bareilly was made available to the Salesians of Don Bosco to run the Sumedha programmes.

Sumedha Centre at Jeolikote was officially inaugurated on 19th March 2009.

Sumedha Centre ceased operations at Jeolikote in 2021, as the buildings and premises it was using had to be returned to the diocese of Bareilly to run its own programmes.

MOVE TO JHARMARI, PUNJAB

In March 2022 Sumedha Centre was relocated at Jharmari, Punjab in a 16-acre plot on the campus of the Don Bosco Sr. Sec. School. The new building was blessed and inaugurated on March 19, 2022.

The first programme at the new location began on March 20th, 2022. That year the Centre offered three eleven-week Sumedha Sadhana- A Psychospiritual Wholeness Journey programmes.

In 2023, the Centre offered two 8-day programmes: Enhancing Formation Skills, and Enhancing Leadership Skills programmes beside the three Sumedha Sadhana programmes, whose duration was extended to 80 days.

In 2024, the Centre is offering again three Sumedha -Sadhana programmes whose duration has been extended to 12 weeks.

All these programmes are well-attended. Sumedha also conducts outreach programmes in psychospiritual healing and empowerment programs of various duration for clergy, religious, healthcare professionals and others in India and abroad.

Since its inception in 2003 more than 13000 persons have benefited from Sumedha Centre programes.

PLANS TO RETURN TO JEOLIKOTE

Plans are afoot for Sumedha Centre to return to Jeolikote, Uttarakhand. Two new buildings have been approved by the Nainital Development authority. Construction will begin as and when sufficient funds are available.
